Since people always want to know where they can ride. This is for us MidWest City Folk. I just need a vintage kart or bike now. However it does say "without the strict adherence to vintage equipment."
Looks like FUN! Chance to race some OMB folks.

Wonder the date of the event? The track has racing leagues and stuff anyway.

White Knuckle Scramble

What?
Motorized Mayhem!! That's WHAT!

Vintage Go Karts
Vintage Minibikes
Road Racing
Drag Racing

The White Knuckle Scramble is one of only 2 events in the USA that allows vintage go karts AND vintage minibikes to race! It is the only event of its kind in the Midwest.

Kart races will be run 6:6:10… in other words, two heats of 6 laps and a final feature heat of 10 laps.

Minibikes will be run 5:5:7

Drags will be run as eliminations. Line up and go. Lose and you’re done.

Classes
Karts 1: Single engine, rear mounted
Karts 2: 2 or more engines, rear mounted
Karts 3: Sidewinders (side mounted engines)

Minibikes 1: Flatheads
Minibikes 2: Clones, modifieds

When? 2017

Tentative schedule:
8-10: gates open, registration, tech inspection #1
10-12: Practice
12-12:30: Tech inspection #2
12:30 Drivers’ meeting, with racing to follow

When the racing is done, we will be able to do more practice runs with the track officials’ permission. We’ve been assured that you’d have to screw up royally to not get permission.

How Much?
All racers must purchase a Hot Grid/track pass ($13). After that, the cost is $30 per vehicle raced. For example, if you're racing one go kart, it will be $43 ($13 + $30) for the whole day. If you want to race 2 karts, or one kart and one minibike, it will be $73 ($13 + $30 + $30). This covers racing and practice laps ALL DAY!

If you just want to watch the races, you will purchase a "premises pass" for $5 which will grant you access to the grounds and race pits (but not the hot grid or track).

Where?
Concept Haulers Motor Speedway in Norway, IL (about 15 minutes from Morris, about an hour from Chicago). This is a great track with a nice concession stand!

Rules
Rules??! Of course there are rules. You don't want anarchy, do you?

We want to keep things simple and fun, so everyone can participate, but also vintage and fair. We have borrowed many of our minibike and kart rules from the Vintage Karting Association, but without the strict adherence to vintage equipment.

General
Racers must be 18 years old or older, with a valid drivers' license and must sign track and event waivers. We are thinking about allowing kids under 18 to allow in limited kart-only classes in the morning. Let us know what you think, yea or nay.

Chassis
Vintage (1956-1985)
No bodies, body panels, or roll bars or cages
No mopeds, gopeds, pocket bikes, etc - vintage minibikes only!
No Yerfdogs, buggies, etc
No 2-seater karts

Engines
Air-cooled
You MUST run a muffler or silencer. The county has a strict 95 dB limit at the property line and it will be enforced at the track with a decibel meter.
No transmissions or gears; no shifter karts
No motorcycle engines

Safety

You must demonstrate that you have working brakes and steering, and can safely handle your vehicle
No fluid leaks
Full-face helmet with a Snell 2005 or newer rating (kart [k], motorcycle [m], or racing [sa] are OK) - see below
Neck brace (see below)
Abrasion-resistant jacket (race purpose, leather, denim, etc, but the more durable the better, especially on a minibike!!)
Long pants (to the ankle) of durable material (denim, etc)
Closed toe shoes
Full finger, abrasion-resistant gloves
Hair protruding more than 4" from the helmet must be secured under the helmet
Snell rated helmets can be purchased new starting at about $50, or used online starting at $20, or you can rent one from the track (Concept Haulers) for $5, or FREE if you borrow one from a friend. A racer last year would have left in an ambulance had he not been wearing the correct helmet. Racing is dangerous!

Neck braces sell for about $25-35 new, or you can rent one from the track for $5. These protect your collar bone in case your head takes a hit.

You will have TWO opportunities for tech inspection: 8-10am and 12-12:30pm. No inspection, no racing (not even practice laps).

Registration
When you arrive at the track, you will need to walk into the registration booth near the road. There you will sign some waivers, register your vehicle, receive a number(s), and pay the fee.

You are also going to need a way to identify your vehicle on the track. This means you must secure a number plate to your handlebars, chassis, or somewhere that the officials can easily see it as you approach. You can purchase these from the track for around $1, or several places sell them online for between $5 and $10, or make your own. You will be assigned a number when you register.

If you have questions, please contact us at info@whiteknucklescramble.com!

Racing Conduct and Ettiquette
Racing is a "gentleman's" sport. Those conducting themselves inappropriately will be warned once, then asked to leave.
Track rules and staff will be obeyed at all times.

Rainouts
If the event is canceled due to rain, we will try to reschedule it.

Classes may be modified based on race day entries. At the very least, racers will be divided into two main classes: Minibikes and Go Karts.

I'll update when I get a response email.

They say they copied rules from a "Vintage" thing, but it also says without the strict adherence to vintage.???

So I'll wait and see.

The response....

Bob, I am familiar with your trailsport. . I will forward your message to the race director. . But I feel that your set up is for dirt trail riding rather than road coarse pavement racing, which is our focus. Take a look at our videos and you'll see what we race...... big tires with knobs running on track may be an issue....we will be announcing a race date at the end of February. ..stay tuned ......thx. WKS........look up, fox valley off road riding in wedron, illinois. .....it's a great trail riding area

I said I can swap the tires for pavement and to get back to me.

I'm fairly confident that this 13x5x6 tire will fit my rim.
Current tire is 145/70-6.
Think my 6" rim is 5.25" wide. I can probaly use a 5-6.5" wide tire.
This looks like more of road coarse pavement racing tire to me.?
It comes in 5 and 6.5" wide.

How about a smooth Lawn and Garden Tire for a slick?

Or more of a saw tooth?

Yeah! Another benefit to owning "vintage" karts. Buggies are too varied for any kind of uniformity in racing but vintage karts in the posted age range are all basically clones of each other.

A lot of you Manco Dingo owners (hint hint) could compete with just a tire and wheel change as that chassis has a perfect dropped stance and low ground clearance with the right tires/wheels.
