What kind of engine is it???

Ok so in my search for more and more speed i hit the local scrap yard and found an engine(dude wanted $50 for it).... And it looks MEAN!! Its a 4 stroke 2cyl horizontally opposed engine. looks like meby 20hp(just by eye tho) it had absolutely no marking what so ever and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what kind it is. I will try to post pics when i get them any help would be awesome.

Sounds like it might be a Briggs or Kohler opposed twin flathead.

and it looked like a vert shaft. what would have to happen for it to work horizontal

Looks like a vert shaft 16hp briggs to me, just missing the cooling tins and carb, you sure its a vert shaft?

no not sure but the orientation on the pullys makes it look vert

Manifold carb flange indicates vertical config.

any idea how its lubricated is it splash or pressure?

cuz it would be a wicked motor for my kart and its only $50!!!

Look up model number and check parts explosion. Will tell you everything you need to know.

If you want to use the motor as is, then try to find a broken outboard motor. The leg of the outboard has a 90 degree drive which you can use, and you will probably also get a forward, reverse, neutral box. You can probably (with a bit of enginuity) connect a sprocket to the input and output shafts of the outboard, and I think they already have some kind of reduction in them so you can use smaller sprockets.

i hate to do it but it looks like i have to abandon this motor
and for $50 bucks i die a little in side doing it but whatever...
