vitara engine not running

Problem: We have a vitara 1.6 16v 4 cyl farm truck. It suddenly stopped working. We suspect dirty fuel causing blocked injectors. It has spark and compression.

How does one go about cleaning injectors? I am totally new to injected motors.
Also does the teaspoon of gas in the cylinder(s) thing apply for testing?

is it diesel or gas? it should fire up for a little bit after putting a teaspoon of gas in all the cylinders.

i dont know much about injectors but if it was me id pull them off and spray them good with carb cleaner. there might be something you can put in the gas to clean them.

Yeah its gas. I will try putting a bit in each cylinder. I bet theres some crap from the bottom of a jerry can blocking up something.

Have you verified that your getting pressure to the fuel rails?

Could be a bad fuel pump, bad fuel pump wiring, a blown fuel pump fuse, a clog in the fuel line, clogged fuel filter, and many more. But Im not exactly an EFI expert, cuz carbs are better

The ECU is the culprit. I had one that did the exact same thing. It would stutter if you put gas in the intake, but immediately die and continue to crank.

They are extremely failure prone.

Ok thanks mate, I will look at this at the weekend.
Do you know if you can replace the ECU with no mods etc like reprogramming? If so it may just be worth getting one by the time I have pissed around!
