Hey everyone , yet again i have another question concerning motorized things, and i was wondering if any body has had any experience with converting a Victa 160cc lawnmower engine from vertical to horizontal. Since its a 2 stroke the supply of oil is in the fuel mixture, so does it just depend on making sure the carby is getting fuel right?. So would the original carby work in the horizontal position?
Because i found a video of someone who did it and they said they used a suzuki rm125 carby or something like that on their victa 160cc engine. I was just wondering because my dad told me that he would give me his old lawnmower if i did a few things for him and i have a few ideas in mind, here is the link to what i have in mind :drool5: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=eQd_PwJo7q0

thanks
guy

Can be done. Bowl carb would have to be re-oriented as they depend on a float and needle for fuel flow. They are not designed to run turned on their side.
Would be easier to use a diaphragm carb as they operate in any position.
I and Mr. Kibble have converted 2 cycle Lawn-boy vertical shaft push mower engines to run horizontally. Easily done once you've figured out how to mount it.

:roflol: I'm in South Africa and finding things is an uphill battle for each and every project. Went to the engineering supply shop the other day and asked for T-nuts. Guy 1st replied they do'nt sell peanuts then when I explained said he never heard of such a beast.

I suggest you use your imagination - what about a small engine/lawnmower repair shop close by??

I was thinking somewhere like that or would a go kart place sell them? i just read i minute ago that the victa 160cc mower he bought cheaply had a butterfly carb, whats the difference. I also found a comment from the creator of the video i posted and they said that the bike they made used a rm125 carb while another user made a 167cc victa with turbo and he said he used a standard victa butterfly carb or something, so im confused:confused: , do victas have different carbs or what?

Heres the 167cc ported turbo one which uses a butterfly carb:
http://ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=156516

And heres the comment the other person made about the rm125 carb:
"this is a comment from the creator of this victa 160cc two stroke lawnmower engine on a bmx , i borrowed the bmx off fredakastep 1 day and when he seen it next it was like that, mikuni carby off an old suzuki rm 125, uni filter, 1.7 ltr fuel tank on handle bars, 8:1 spindle to tyre ratio,i thought about a clutch and other stuff but this was easy, because its a 2 stroke engine it can run upside down if you want it to , as long as the carby is upright"

So i just need to know for sure what do i do?
but any information is very appreciated so thanks

You might have really good luck trying for a smaller Tillotson from Ebay. From the looks of the video, it looks like the Victa manifold is 2 bolts? If you find a suitable carby on Ebay, they can maeasure the bolt pattern/ distance....
I lucked out and was able to flip the carb on my B/S 2 stroke 90 degrees and not pay a cent. Maybe the same can be done for the Victa?...

I understand that this is an old thread, but I feel as though I have something to add to the discussion.

guyithie, your mower is easily converted.
This applies to most Victa 2-stroke mower's.
Assuming you have the engine separate from the rest of the mower, then all you have to do is disconnect the fuel line at the carby, as well as another line that runs into the steel cover (underneath the plastic one). Then, rotate the carby counter-clockwise, and pull it off. Now you can see the carby manifold. Clean out the gunk from the bolts, and remove them with a phillips head screwdriver. Rotate the plastic manifold 90 degrees counterclockwise, and re-mount (assuming you are running your engine that way, otherwise adjust orientation as you see fit). Bolt it back on, put the carby back on (make sure the gasket is still there), hook up your fuel lines, prime it, and she's ready to run.

Its simple to get a 4 stroke to run horizontal, but see how long it lasts like that. Its just going to smoke like hell with oil in the gas and carbon up the valves faster.
