I had to lift a boat dock at the river today.

One of the main posts (a pier or pile, typically pounded into the muddy lake bed) had settled a few inches, so I needed to lift up a section of the boat dock dock and re-fasten it.

The challenge was to do this while standing on the dock and without getting wet.

I used some tools from HF... The 20 ton jack, and a 14' HF tow chain. The only part that I made is the arched piece that sits on the top of the jack, and I made that for my pipe bender. It is a 2" pipe coupling with some 1-1/2" x 1/8" flat bar bent into a 5-6" diameter curve with some 3/8" and 1/4" round stock on each side to make a channel where the pipe is bent.

This rig just happened to be the perfect combination for this task:

This would also work for lifting a deck or any other structure where you have access to the load bearing post and can wrap the chain "stirrups" around the girder beams that the floor joists are sitting on.

Here is what it looks like when the jack is in the pipe bender.
