I opened up the gear box...no way for me to mod it to change the gearing.

I might look into some way to lock the diff tho.

At this point, Im thinking Id like to fit tires that are twice the diameter of the stock ones. That should double the speed (to 8-9mph) The scooter was rated to carry 250 pounds. So a 100 pound kid shouldn't be too much for it even with tires twice as big as the stock ones.

I might have to make the front tires larger as well...as there is not much ground clearance. It will depend on what I can find and what it will cost.

It certainly wont be anything that would excite a teenager or adult, but younger kids should have fun with it. I mean, the power wheels escalade at 24v is fun for my 11yo nephew...the Mobkart (like the name?) should be about the same speed.

I put on some 10'' tires. They were the only ones I found that I could mount the hub from the stock wheels onto.
Likely a good thing, If I had gotten larger tires then they would have hit the chassis.
It can still move me on a flat surface, but stalls on a decent incline.
With my 5yo son however, it is fairly peppy and doesn't have any trouble on the same incline.
I mounted a simple push button momentary switch to the floor board. No brakes yet.
I know you can run the pos/neg of the motor together for braking...but Im not sure if I can do this with just another momentary switch. what would happen if he hit both switches at the same time???

you know that when pushed 12 Amps run through that momentary switch?
that when trying to "feather" the throttle the switch might weld shut, (initial currents are much higher)
Worse: in case the housing brakes your kid might touch that 10 Amps can seriously harm your kid???

Really... get a controller, do not let your kid anywhere NEAR it without a controller.

Oh what happens when you short a battery.. you really have to ask?
well, 200+ Amps run through the wires until they burn (hopefully, before the cells melt)

THAT's what will happen when you short a battery.

it is not a 12v switch. it is rated at 10a/125v. I figured that with 24v, the amp rating would be around 30a. LKM if I am wrong on that...I don't want the switch welding and my son to crash into something. It doesn't really go fast enough for him to get hurt, but just fast enough for him to damage anything he may hit with the Mobkart. Even with the larger tires...it is still a bit slower than his power wheels (running 24v)

on the wiring thing, I wasn't sure if having both of those switches open at the same time would short the battery...or if it would just cause the current to bypass the motor and go back to the battery or something. I thought it more likely it would cause a short, but thought Id ask anyway. I am certainly not a fan of sparks flying or melted wires.

Other than an emergency off switch, you should have no switches directly to the batteries or motor at all!

That's why there are controllers for that.

you can find cheap chinese controllers for 24V at ebay.. shouldn't cost more than maybe 20 bucks... get one rated for 350Watts and you have a nice option to upgrade in a year or two.
(you can even get one rated much higher.. doesn't harm at all.. just buy something in that kickscooter pricerange of no more than 25 USD)

Really, a switch rated for 10Amps isn't feasible at all, no matter what voltage rating it has.

Okay, here's a comparision table:

10 milliamps are enough for musclecramps to prevent letting go the hot wire on your own.
30 milliamps in your foot can cause severe breathing problems since all your muscles are affected already.
75 milliamps and breathing will be impossible
100 milliamps, the heart will no longer pump blood 'uncontrolled' twitching of the ventricles known as ventricular fibrillation .. reads as death btw :(
Above 200 milliamps, muscular contractions forcibly clamp the heart during the shock.
The good thing is.. no fibrillation, so the victim has a good chance of survival.
BUT severe burns will occur and you still cannot breath :(

And we talk about 0.2 Amps here!! 10 Amps is fifty times that or one hundred times the lethal dose

Now... forget the melting wire, we talk about melting your kid!!!

thank you. Honestly didn't think 10amps was a big deal! I thought you would have to be dealing with more than 25 amps before worrying about anything more than an unpleasant shock. Ill be more careful now that I have the correct knowledge.

Will a 155w motor on 24v have enough for a light go kart to go at least 10-15mph?

For you, I doubt it; for a 5yo, more than likely...

it can drive me over the lawn. it is certainly a bit quicker with my 5yo son riding on it tho.

Obviously, he weighs a lot less than you...

My 10yo daughter who weighs around 50lbs wringing wet can get my scooter in original layout to move almost as quick as me on the other scooter fitted with a motor with almost twice the power...

Sheesh. Thanks for this. It makes a person think. There are a lot of misconceptions about what electricity can do to you
