tractor restoration

just wondering if anyone knew of any tractor resoration sites/forums

we have an old chamberlin tractor sitiing in the weather
i think its from about the 60s and the dam thing ran like a beast till the 80s when it was out dated and left to rust :)

all the gears still work and it hasnt leaked any oil
it is missing the fuel pump and some tyres

it would be great to get it fully restored as it would be good to use to mow tight areas
and because it can travel at 45mph (yes 45mph:ack2:)
it is 3 times faster that modern trators so it would be good to tow stuff the pickups cant

it has 3 point linkage, power take off and can run 2 external hydrolic devices

our tractors are al larger than 375hp so it wont be able to do any majgor work but it would be good to get working agian

They can be registered as a car, basically they're a closed cab (usually a soft top) tractor with a bench seat, there's a few mad men who tour around Aus in them. Like so.

(this is of course assuming Fowlers is a 9G)



There's one in the tractor museum of Western Australia (yes, really, a tractor museum) That's famously done a few laps of Aus and I believe ran in a few reliability trails (meant for cars) in the '50s and '60s.

My understanding is that with very light mods they will happily sit on 100km/h (62mph) all day. Doing such thing tractor tyres is madness of course. (And probably illegal, imagine the look on the cops face! :roflol:)

Fowler, there's still a big following for these so you should be able to get parts easy enough, the best place to ask about parts would be the tractor museum (it's in Whiteman park in Perth). I believe there's also a Chamberlain tractor club of W.A. :eek:ut: If it's got a Perkins engine then you're pretty much set, parts would be easy as to get.

iv seen those 9Gs touring they came to our school camp once

im not sure of the model but thats does help
it has been modifyed to be electric start and to run on desiel not the petrol /kero that it used to have
looking at it again in more detail i note the air ckeaner and exhaust have gone and the engine will be full of water
being as suface rust will form on bare metal in 6 hours here i expect i may just have to get a new engine

i know u can get high hi speed trator tyres
but we purchased one for our fastrac and they are 3 grand each (bugger)

pics when i get down that end of the farm next

now iv finished harvest i can make tentative moves on the project

unfortunet that others are ahead on it
lkie the piranha and about 15km of fencing

oh and the annoying need to go back to work to get money

The old tractors will run forever. My uncle has one from probly the 70's with a little diesel 4 cylinder in it and hes just now doing an engine rebuild on it. Also make sure if you want to do an engine swap that the engine is NOT a stressed part of the frame like my uncles is. Its been a real chore doing the engine in it as the engine holds the front end together and to actually pull it out you would have to take off the entire front end and the loader on the front. We are planning to rebuilt it in the tractor if possible.

well a restoration would have me pull the tractor pulled down to its indovidual peices anyway to get them sand blasted and painted

the exhaust is rusted out but the air cleaner is still there

to some this rust may look like the end on the road but for around here this is in exelent condition
