My s-i-l recently bought some gym equipment which required assembly & I remember thinking "imagine if cars came from the dealer with 'some assembly required'" :lolgouk:

How many people do you know could actually pull it off?

Most of the Guys here could pull it off. I guess I could say I "know" y'all.

So I "know" about 30! Plus a bunch of my Co workers. But the Average Joe? and they are
supposedly marketing that to the 3rd world. So I see your point for sure.

So, around 50 out of 7 BILLION, that's a pretty large ratio...

Some say "a little knowledge is dangerous"; IMO, that depends on who possesses said knowledge & how they use it; some have a little knowledge & think they know everything on the subject, others have a little knowledge & yearn for more before they use it...

The other thing I wish to add is "necessity is the mother of invention"; you would be amazed what 3rd world citizens can achieve when they need to; in most of these cases, a little knowledge is never dangerous...

You see my point, though, the large majority don't even know how to check the oil level in their car, much less how to add oil; they would have no chance of assembling a vehicle...

However, that's a relatively new situation; half a century ago, mechanics only existed to do the jobs people didn't want to do themselves or simply didn't have the facilities to perform; the "average joe" did most of his/her own vehicle maintenance him/herself...

Have any of you seen mighty car mods? Two guys with university degrees, one of which has a music contract (all the music for the series is written by him (Moog)) but they both love working with cars, sort of like "roadkill"; what started as a joke has become a worldwide sensation, two self confessed "hacks" doing some weird & wonderful things with cars that the average joe can learn from; personally, I think the world need more guys like these...

So many of these folks who can't even check their own oil are content in their ignorance. I will never understand that about the humans.

It ain't easy being at the top of the food chain. You think Einstein gave a flip about checking his oil?

I saw ezcome-ezgo just the other day and envied his facial hair. Some simians have all the luck...:D
