I saw The Gods Must Be Crazy again over the weekend. The first time I saw it was as a treat in high school geography class. That very morning I had the exact same gate/slope/no brakes/rock/wheel chock issues with my farm truck. I laughed my a$$ off harder than any other student in the class! The rest wondered what was wrong with me. lol

Anyway, I saw Mpudi's little kart thing and I thought about Landuse on this board.

Andrew gets the Land Rover running!...by having Mpudi tow it with a go-kart. And in an African nation full of the oddest vehicles you’ll ever see outside of a Kia showroom, would you guess Andrew’s macho romantic rival would show up in that van-like monstrosity in the upper left there? It’s “great white hunter” Jack Hind (Mick Jagger…I’m sorry, Nic de Jager), who sweeps Kate off her feet and whisks her off in the great van thing. Her scenes *****ing about Andrew are paralleled with Andrew pining hopelessly for Kate.

LOL. I remember watching The Gods Must be Crazy over and over as a kid as well. I haven't seen it in a few years now, but occasionally they show it on local TV again. They did make 4 more sequals, but they were never as good as the first one. The first one grossed over $100 million worldwide. And this was in 1980!!!

I will never forget how all the bushmen start fighting over a Coke bottle, and how the landrover runs away from one of the main actors.

I wonder what happened to the gokart used in the subsequent movie

Hahaha I've only seen part one and a little of part 2 (56k, this is excruciating) but I can relate to a lot of the land rover stuff.

A friend of mine has a paddock basher (we never drive it on the road, we're far to responsible for that ) Land Rover s2 SWB. It too has no brakes and won't start if you stop it. We open gates on hills by putting it in first low (there's often only one person in it, we have many paddock bashers), cranking the hand throttle up a bit, aiming it at the gate and getting out and sprinting up to the gate and opening it.

We've also gotten out and pushed it out of a bog whilst it's in gear like he did and even better, you can't close the passengers door properly so we just take it off when you want to get in, just like he did!

I remember watching this when I was really little (like 4 or 5), really cool movie! haha
