Hi everyone. My name’s Mike. I’m currently a pilot and aircraft mechanic in Papua New Guinea where I fly into bush airstrips to support Bible Translation and community development. I used to be an HVAC Technician in Southern California and have always enjoyed hot rods and racing. I’ve owned a ‘56 F100 and a ‘64 Chevy C-10. Go karts may be more fun because the cost is so much less. When I was a kid, I always wanted to build a go kart, but never had the skills or opportunity. During our last time in the US, we decided to gather up some parts and get a set of plans and I’m just about done with my first build. My girls are totally stoked!

I wanted to also build a kart when I was a kidd, it took 50 years to start one. hopefully this winter I will have it ready for the spring of 2019

I started one when I was about 19, warped the frame learning to weld and gave up. Now that it’s something I can do with my kids, it’s revived the interest. Also, now I can put some of my life experience into making it better, and just being able to complete it for that matter. Good luck on finishing your project. I’m finding that the last 10% is taking 90% of the time. That’s pretty true with most projects I guess.

Did you buy the frame or is it totally fabricated? I like those tires and wheels, they look really cool. And if you have more pics of the project in previous stages, it would be awesome to see those too.

Thanks. It’s mostly fabricated. I bought the plans in Kartfab’s site and followed them, except for a few modifications. I’ll post some build pics when I get a bit more time. I bought the Deluxe Kit from Go Power Sports. It came with the wheels/tires, tubular hand bars on the side, steering hoop, pedals, axle, brake, motor mount plate, sprocket, TC, seat. It was the most expensive part of the build, but was worth it for the time it’s saved me on my first build. I have a few ideas of others I’d like to build next.
