hi everyone im a bit confused about electric motors,im building a winch,i want it to be fast and small,so it be great to be direct shaft(drum),
i looked into starter motors 24v i know they can only work for few seconds but thats okay,id like to pull my self 80klg as fast as possible on the water whit no wakeboard whatsoever only me on the water, well i would just like to know if someone have any idea or if you know how to modify and starter motor so it doesnt go back and forward that be great,or maybe another kind of motor im open to ideas, thanks so much.

If you need lots of power and speed you might consider a couple old truck or tractor generators. They are used to start engines as well as to charge the batteries and can take quite a bit of abuse. But to pull full grown human through water at speed is not easy - my brother has a 50hp boat and when he tried to pull his friend as part of a dare he barely got to 10mph on a boat that can pull large tubes with several people on them up to 30mph easily. If you're looking to get good speed I'd say look for a 10hp or bigger gas engine (electric motors this size are expensive and huge) and hook that up to the winch. You may be able to find something for around $200 at harbor freight.

Remember its not your weight slowing you in the water its all the water you're pushing. A 100lb person could easily take over 200lbs of force to get up to speed in a reasonable time.
