I'd like to change my gearing to achieve more low end acceleration. My gearing is currently 2.5:1. I have 30 teeth on the motor sprocket and 75 on the axle sprocket. Now my question is, if I reduce my motor teeth to 18, how many teeth can you add to the axle sprocket without changing the distance between the two? Is there a certain ratio one needs to follow?

Jeez 2.5:1?!

Just cut the chain with some boltcutters, and then use a bench grinder and remove it. Don't need a chaincutter.

No, it doesn't really have that small of wheels. It was geared to a certain speed and we've found we want more acceleration out of the corners. I'd like to achieve around a 4:1, maybe a little higher. Does anyone know if there's a formula where I can find the max amount of teeth on the rear sprocket?
