Someone lost their job today...

We have a foundry at work: we also use two different systems for making the mold's. The first is an improvement/ variation on the tradional green sand process, where we can recycle the sand. The second uses a much newer process where the sand is mixed with a chemical binder that makes for a much stronger mold. The only problem with the new process is that the sand can only be used once.



That's where the poor guy in question got burned. New to his now former employer, handed a truck that was technically illegal for the load he was expected to haul, they sent him to a receiving /discharge dock he'd never been to before.

If he had been given the correct size truck/ and/or actually had instructions on our dock, he might have had a chance. The final straw was the fact that he was pretty much he!! bent for election when he screwed the canine.

I apologize in advance; my tablet is extremely cheap. The camera is one of the places they cut costs. The rest of it works fairly well though....

If that truck is equipped with both cable and hook style pickup the driver should have known to switch it over to cable in that situation, then he wouldn't have had this happen. Either way in a cable mode truck he would have backed up to the box put the cable on and drug it out and been gone, never should have been picked up with a hook . Cable only in that situation. With a hook truck you have to have the bed up to high to be able to grab the box. I still hate it for the guy though he evidently wasn't properly trained.

While I totally agree about how he was hung out to dry, the waste company in question is apparently only running hook equipped trucks. I asked about that today at work, and all the old timer's seem to agree that they can't remember the last time a cable equipped rig showed up.

We're in our busy season right now; the foundry need's a switch out every working day (the dock cover's two dumpsters; while the full one is being swapped out, they're filling the other one). And while the roof could stand to be raised up a bit, there's more than enough clearance for their trucks to snag the hopper with the hook, tow it out 5-6 feet, and then finish loading.

I'm guessing that's where the screw up occurred. I personally think it was an honest mistake; but from what his now former supervisor told our head of maintenance, he'd only worked for them for a couple of weeks, and they appear to have a zero tolerance policy......
