Higher as in leaner? Yes.
Your engine is designed to run at 32:1 which is richer than 50:1.
The hotter a 2 cycle engine runs, the more oil it needs.
32:1 is 4oz./gal.
50:1 is 2.6oz./gal.
4oz. > 2.6oz./gal.

in simpler terms, you want more oil in your mix. you've been using 50 parts gas to 1 part oil, or 50:1. i'm suggesting you "raise" it to 2 parts oil, or 50:2, or 25:1.

i've tore up a few scooter 43's & 49's on my bikes, they're cheap & fun to abuse, but they have many weak points. if you start with a new one, and use a GOOD oil (i recommend Lucas) you can get a decent lifespan with a 32:1 mix. but that old beater needs lotsa oil if it's gonna keep running for you, especially after scraping along for 1/2 hour with hardly any. just my opinion is all, hope it works out for you.

yaknow, i had meant to ask, is the smoke coming off the engine (which is how i interpreted it, as being overheated) or from the exhaust? i ask because, altho you do need to increase the oil, you may also have a carburetor adjustment to make.

how many mill in a liter? 1000? so you used 100 mills to 2000 mills? my math says that's 20:1 and that's pretty fat. 70-75 mill to 2 liters should be good. so oil's not the problem, maybe, except i'm guessing the spark plug needs looking at by now. with luck, the problem's only a gooey spark plug.

but the carb could be set too lean. this is just rough here, but it'll be right for starters...screw the mixture screw in, then back out 1 3/4 turns, plus a tiny-smidge more. (count how many turns it took to screw it in, that'll be a good clue)

anyways, that's all i can think of doing "long distance"...let us know how it goes.

if the shroud and cooling fins are packed with debris, the engine's not getting any air, and it will overheat.

take the cover off and check, reset the carburetor mixture, clean and gap the plug at .025-.028, try again.

APC specs a 20:1 mix ratio for their pocket chops, according to the sticker on my turd's gas tank cover.
i run it at 40:1 with synthetic and it's living happily so far and it's WOT full time when i ride.
