shopping for car tires

My Volkswagen Jetta is due for some new rubbers. Just curious if anyone has any recommendations of tires that they're happy with, or ones to avoid. It's a commuter, not an Indy car or a pickup truck.

I used to get Douglas tires from Pep Boys....but had some problems with belt separation.....so I spend just a little more and get Goodyear tires from Wal-Mart.....happy with them.....

I could probably get something cheaper from Discount Tire.....but...I can window shop Wally World while they're being mounted.....

I have a set of Kumho Ecstas -- good grip and great predictability, but they don't give much warning.
