Has it been done?
Can it be done?
Wouldn't it be nice?

Correct. It was the Tote Gote 780, made by Bonham. The Bonham clutch was mounted backwards. It was an ingenious set up, but a lot more costly than a chain. They even make a shaft drive set up for bicycles these days. Nice thinking outside of the box, Joe.In a matter of speaking...
Off hand I recall totegote had a version.. I think it's a 780

But, it sure was smooth, wasn't it?
I prefer mag fire, chain drive and kick only.
Simplicity.
Replacing chains, sprockets, occasional belts, oiling chain, adjusting tension, cleaning and lubing TC's...That stuff. What's so hard about your maintenance.
I realize you put miles on your bike, I get that part.
Constant oil changes, cleaning the air filters every other day, occasional flats, tired dogs....
