Looking for recommendations: I have never done any sanding or paint so this is new. This kart was once red & now its a faded pink. Im thinking of going orange. As you can see, there are some rust spots here & there. What type of sander do you recommend? I’m thinking of using an orbit sander but is that enough to really get the rust spots or?

Also, do you recommend a rattle can or some type of basic sprayer option. Im not looking for a show stopper here but I do want it to look good.

Note: not sure why the pictures are upside down & what not. They are not like that in my photos app.

If its a powder coat itll be a pain to Strip and repaint... if not then it could be worked over with the sander....an air tool diegrinder sander would do great.... but thats air powered..

Sand the rust spots out to bare metal. Otherwise it will just rust under the new paint and mess it up. Best to cover with a primer before paint.

Where's there's no rust just sand it smooth. Doesn't need to be to bare metal.
Any powersander will be a good start, but you'll find by hand will give the best results.

As far as paint, a rattle can will do an ok job. Depends on the brand if paint and how good the nozzle pattern is. It's a crap shoot.

Would an angle grinder work for the rust spots & orbit/hand sander be good for the rest? Also, when
sanding by hand, what grit do you suggest.

flap disc or get a chemical paint stripper, the stuff I have works wonders, it's thick and gooey, you "paint" it on, 20 min later hose it off, then yes, clean the metal with TSP or carb cleaner, eliminate rust, primer, sand, paint, top cote
