Reverse motor rotation phase and hall wiriring

Hey , it's me again....ugh!...l know. Well anyway, l forgot how l had the Yellow, Green, and Blue phase, and hall wires connected to achieve reverse motor rotation, on my BLDC 3 phase brushless motor. Does anyone know what wires that l need to swap to get this accomplished? I thought l swapped the green and blue wires on both the hall, and motor phase, but that doesn't seem to work. In a picture of me building my EV, l think it shows the yellow and green phase wires swapped (not sure about the hall wires). I tried that also, but still no go. Does anybody know the correct combination?

any two wires.

wires are ABCABCABCABC powered and if you swap any two, you'll end up with CBACBACBA
(reverse order)

example YBGYBGYBG (swapping Y and B) BY..GBYGBYGBY... (see?)
swapping G and B same thing: Y..GBYGBYGBY...

Sensor wires are a bit harder to determine it's the exact same idea,
but some controllers assume synchronous hallsensors some shifted hallsensors..
easiest is to just swap the smae colours and check, then test the remaining two swaps if that didn't make the motor run (or run awkwardly)
usually you need to swap the remaining phase's hall sensor wire
so if you swapped green and blue on the phases,
you need to swap the yellow and green or yellow and blue sensor wires..
but again, that differs from motors and controller expectations.. so you may need to test that.

OH all controllers you have have a forward reverse switch IIRC.. so why not just use that instead?

Um, he’s got the reverse line wires exiting his controller, just needs a switch.
I believe there brown and black- connect or disconnect them.

Unless of course he cut them out.....

Thanks for your input guys. In the meantime, l actuality got it going...Yellow to blue. Green to yellow, and blue to green (same for both hall and phase wires)...strange, but it works. Sid, l do have separate reverse, and three speed wires, but l needed on motor reversed full time, so l don't continuously drive around in circles.....lol

There are a few different brushless motors/controllers we have been working with recently. (Boma, Mophorn, Kelly etc.)

I can't remember which you have
(or if you have a few different electric toys, which one are we talking about right now)

The info below is for the Boma 48V 1,800W system that I had on El Dingo

I had this very same question a while back
...here is the response I got :thumbsup:

"Dear friend
Pls don't worry ,Pls contact the motor blue contact controller green,motor Green contact controller blue wires,yellow color wire is still contact to yellow wires,
And the motor Holzer wires ,pls swap blue and yellow wire ,that will be ok.Hope you can help us try it again
Have a nice day"


My translation :rolleyes:

"OK, I think they said "yes you can, this is how"

So, if I am translating this right

They say
...contact thick blue motor wire to thick green controller wire

...thick green motor wire to thick blue controller wire

...keep thick yellow motor wire connected to the thick yellow controller wire

The motor Holzer wires (again, if I my translation is correct)

...is the 5 wire plug that connects to the controller

...& their saying to also swap the blue & yellow wires on that plug in"

Thank you, l just tried that and it is not correct for my set up. Even though it did not work, l really appreciate the input. UPDATE!!.....l finally found my old/original notes on the wiring. If anyone in the future needs to run one motor in (full time) in reverse, due to having a two motor set up or any other reason, it should be wired as follows:

Phase wires from controller to motor:
YELLOW - GREEN
BLUE - BLUE
GREEN - YELLOW

Hall wires from controller to motor:
RED - RED
BLACK - BLACK
YELLOW - YELLOW
GREEN - BLUE
BLUE - GREEN

You can still use the 3 speed and reverse functions, as they were intended, by connecting those wires as you normally would. This wiring works on all Boma my1020 motors, regardless of voltage (24/36/48/72v). I hope this helps anyone that has run across this problem.

So I tried both FA and Bgt2u wiring configurations and in both cases, I was able to get the motor to run in reverse, but not at full speed. Additionally, I could not get the "reverse" short/swtich to move the motor when in either of these configurations.

Could it be as simple as just trying the other hall sensor wire config like Sid was saying?

I will chime in, briefly. I am both color blind and about half stupid, but if you reverse current flow through either the armature or the field windings...EITHER, BUT NOT BOTH,....just the one but not the other, you will reverse the motor direction. Work the colors out for yourself. Pretty simple if you allow it to be.....Joe
