would you remove the governor off a 1980 5hp briggs flathead?
how risky would it be?
how do you set up the throttle governed and ungoverned?
engine will be going on a mini bike.

Pull it for sure. Even if you're not gonna rev it up high it just feels alot better. Here is how my throttle is done. I rev it all the way all the time on my kart.. I'm not dead YET.

The springs cap the rpm at 4500-5000ish so it should be safeish.

Here is how my throttle is done:

governor removal

I have a Briggs 5 hp fun power engine. I'm looking to get more revs how to I adjust rpm or governor to get this to rev higher? Otherwise engine is good with my torque converter setup.

Do you mean the air flow butterfly valve on carb Crazycart? I'm pretty new to engine mods.

Just hook up a return spring if it doesn't want to go back on it's own.

The throttle is a free spinning piece of metal. The spring keeps it returned to idle.

I have an attachment that bolts onto the throttle cable that pins onto the throttle piece. The cable is then run through a bracket bolted onto the silver bolt you can see on the top of the cylinder head.

Silly question, and first post (cough, cough) :wai:
I had just recently acquired a 5hp b&s motor, sort of similar to yours above Magice... but, here is the thing, I would like to actually remove the governor from the block itself, it is a mechanical governer that has the lever on the outside of the block, attached to the gas tank frame mount.

I plan and was planning on going with the straight throttle linkage to the carb, and bypassing the governor itself, but how would I go about actually removing the governor from inside of the engine itself?? Looking at the IPL of my b&s model engine, it looks like there will be a small opening on the side of the block where that Governor arm was previously located, after I remove it. Any input guys??

Thanks again!!!! ps, I've done tons of reading from you guys so far.. and I'm definitely impressed! I've learned alot in one day!! brings back the memories from when I was younger and working on karts!! lol

Thanks!

well
to remove the govener
all you have to do is open the crank case and on the cover there should be a small plastic gear with some metal fins
pull all of that out

then there should only be a metal rod sticking outa the side cover
dont worry about that

take out the lever
to take it out you have to loosen the nut on the lever and take it off

then there should be some kind of cooter pen on the outside that you need to take out then just take out the lever from the inside and either

tap the hole and put a bolt in there or you can put some JB Weld in there
