Lou, I don't want to be rude, but I have to be blunt; if the only way I can look at a potentially interesting forum or thread it to join one of the "Social Media" approved web sites?

I'll most likely never go.

If I have to hand over my personal life to just be allowed to LOOK at what ever you think would be of interest to me, it's not going to happen.

I'm sorry; that's the way it is. Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.

If they ever feel like growing up, acting like adults (show us what you seem to think we might be interested in without the privacy rape job), I'll look at it.

Until then?

to be blunt back
your personal life is very much out there already
for someone with good enough computer skills

the bloke at the local computer shop asked me to log onto one of the unused users on my computer
not knowing the password
he used his computer to hack mine and pulled up a list of all the passwords on my computer

right from the pass word to this site
my facebook password, bank numbers, email account
everything
was cool but quite scary
putting stuff on facebook is just admitting u konw theres no hope

although i still limit what i put on
no one wants to know what i had for lunch

but its a great site for organizing group events
and finding stuff like the posted link

Thanks Pat,
that's exactly what I thought too;
I do not have any facebook account
(I used to have three or something, none with my actual name or even a real email adress)
just to see why people are so eager to strip naked on the internetz.

I haven't found out.. blablabla of what my friends are doing,
seeing their kids potty training? what they had for lunch?
that they like "xyz" as a band?
Oh well, thank you, excuse me I have no intention to show interest.

The things I need to know I do know about my friends,
there's this old school thing going on called "talk to each other"
that we do regularly.

And fowler, that's exactly the reason...
I do KNOW what I can do with just a few hundred lines of code;
and almost every single person developing fb-code is far better than I am;
that really scares me...
I'm not untraceable, my home PC is not uncrackable (but it'll be quite a task to try ;))
but I'll certainly do not give away my "sensible" information to some website.
I use google, I even have a handfull of gmail adresses (I use one to login to yt... the others are dead ends.)
that's about what I agree to let a company know about myself.

facebook?
Yeah, you have to shoot me first!

ha yea i have an email adress to use to signing up to junk
the amount of crap on that one address is out of control

its just like emails were originally
everyone thought it was just a fad and there was no real use for it

i fond its a useful thing to have without haveing to put up **** loads of info

whom ever jou is doesnt have any privacy at all
thats a it scary when i can go on there and find out who him and his famely are where they live, where his wife works

too much info for a random to know

my facebook is just to "like" pages and organise stuff
you cant see anything exept what i look like with out my permission

and if u wanna know anything about me then call me

I have never been on facebook (or any other social media site) and never will be. If I want people to get hold of me, I would have given them my phone number and they can call me. I hate the fact that anybody can pretty much track you down if you have a FB account. I don't need everyone I have ever known in my life being able to find and contact me

This website is the furthest I have ever ventured into the social media realm...

After much, much resistance, I finally got my own FB page recently. Much like Landuse indicated, I have maintained this: FB was designed to let you get in contact with people from your past. To that I say this: These people are in my past, because I want them there.

I relented and got a page, as a communication tool. It is NOT in my real name, nor is there any personal info...

Working odd shifts, it can be interesting channel surfing the car radio while getting to or from work....

There's a syndicated show on in the evenings that a couple of different stations carry in my area; the Hosts name is John Tesh. I've never been a rabid fan, by any means; but if I have a choice between the latest designer adds for the latest designer holiday, I usually let him carry on about the newest social foe paw, such as finding out your potential employer has passed you over because of they saw you doing with someone else on your Facebook (or Pinterest, or....) whatever type of gossip site you prefer bare all on...

Then there is the fact that most of he people I know out in the world that are into that type of stuff, are also, as Chris put it, people I want in my past; not my present/ and more than likely, not in my future.

Fowler, I can see your argument; the best way I can see around it is to severely limit how much of your personal info you keep on your computer....:surrender:
