Did it start life as a Ford or a Lincoln? I always thought the original was built from a Lincoln.

The only ford I’d ever truly love! Well the Munster Coach too!
Throw in the Monkee Mobile and you have all of my Holy Grail cars.
HOW DARE You!! You Forgot about Grandpa Munster's Dragula!

Denny called it.

Only one original prototype ever actually built was in 1954, and built entirely by hand by the Ghia Body Works in Turin, Italy.

It was intended to see full production in 55 which was a flop mostly due to production cost, and partly being way too far ahead of it's time.

It original factory color was pearlescent white which was the first creation and use of pearlescent finish auto paints.

George Barris bought the former show car for 1.00 directly from Ford Which had been painted red for a 1959 film by that point.

Lincoln was founded in 1917 by Henry and Wilfred Leland , but sold to Ford in 1922... so if it's a Lincoln, it's still a Ford unless you have a Unicorn 1917-1920 Lincoln.

Ironically Henry Leland was previoisly a founding member of Cadillac after a heated dispute between Henry Ford and his investors, two of which backed Leland... Cadillac was sold to GM by 1909
So "Chevy v/s Ford" is an age old feud from the bedrock of Michigan.

As of August 2016, Dave Anderson in Fairfax, Virginia owns the #1 made from the Futura Concept Car and he also owns the #2 car (the first replica that Barris built from the ground up)

The Futura was never intended for production! It was a concept car only. Built to test people’s reactions to new ideas.
The movie it starred in is “It Started With a Kiss” starring Debbie Reynolds and Glen Ford. After ford had finished with all the desert and polar testing and the many other terrible things they did to cars back then it was loaned to Barris for possible future movie work. Then ford forgot about it. When Batman came calling after Dean Jeffries could not have a vehicle ready in time in I believe October of 65 Barris thought of the Futura. He went to ford to secure the rights to it. Ford was way past done with it, it was in bad shape. Barris the secured ownership for $1.00. Then Barris contacted Bill Cushenberry do do the metal work to transform it into the Batmobile. Back at Barris’ Kustom City it was painted, upholstered and had the bat gadgets installed. Delivered to the studio in November of 65 for pre production work like figuring out color and the like. Then when it was decided the show was to be shot in color it was finally decided the car was to be gloss black with cerise (ford bright orange) outlines.
During its time with ford it was painted pearl white (it had a light green hue) it did not photograph well. Then it was repainted white after a time. Red for it started with a kiss and I have also seen a color picture of it being light blue also. It also has had a few different interior colors also. White, red, black, and black with orange thread. At least those are the ones that can be documented.
It also should be noted that the frame used under it was a preproduction prototype for the new and soon to be released 1956 Lincoln Continental. It also got the new y block 312 engine and the first ford motor company push button transmission.
Yea, I’m a Batmobile freak and know way too much about it.

So like the original prototype Chevy Nomad of 53/54 that was based on the 53 Corvette that basically went to Motorama and was promptly forgotten.

Or the Aerovette prototype(s) that was mid engine rear drive beginning with conjoined Vega 2 rotor for a 420hp 4 rotor powerplant and ending with a V8 version that was about as useless as a DMC-12 in the gas crisis era. Duntov and DeLorean both built variations but none ever went further than show circuits almost exclusively due to production costs being prohibitive.
