The PTO (power take off) on my truck (which operates hydraulics to the flatbed) went out.

The PTO itself is OK but, the electrical engagement system (what turns it on & off) was well past its prime.

It was so old & obsolete that parts were no longer available.

A new electrical system was over $600.00.

A new mechanical conversion was $150.00.

Both do the same job. Guess which way I went.

Hmmm it didn't come with a gasket. Guess I 'll have to make one.

Kool-aid Man to the rescue!

Then run the new cable & remove the old the switch & harness.

Make a bracket to secure the shift cable & re assembled the dash.

Works fine. Back in business!

Now I can get back to my kart's.

Can we see a picture of your Hydraulic Flat bed truck?
Unless it is just a tow truck!

It's a GMC branded Isuzu.

It's not "just a tow truck", It's a flatbed tow truck!

Does somebody have a phobia about tow trucks?

Cover your eyes. I attached pics anyways.

Last time I was in a tow truck, my friend had to haul his ratty S10 (he named it Larsander) to his shop because the spider gears blew out and his half shaft pulled out of the housing...that was not a fun time when that happened.

Usually people go mechanical to electrical...didn't know you could go either way. 😎

Just out of my own shear curiosity, does it have a 4BD2T or a 6BD2T?

Thanks, MrC. It does a great job!

Electrical PTO engagement is nice when everything is new.

I have found that with the electrical systems, after a few years, you have problems with wire fatigue, corroded terminals, relays, switches, solenoids etc.

In the real world a mechanical system is more reliable.

it's just a knob on the end of a cable & a lever.

Keep it lubricated & it will last forever.

Last week when it started acting up I had the bed tilted & a pick up truck half way loaded.

It took me about a half hour of messin' with it to get it working again.

Embarrassing & unprofessional! NOT doin' that again!

The engine is a Isuzu 4HE1 Inter cooled Turbo Diesel.

I have to agree.
For example Power windows. Much cheaper and easier to replace the crank then find just the correct switches for your year make and model.
