peg perego ATV, convert to fast ride?

I picked up a peg perego ATV, these things are pretty sweet as far as power wheels go. It is about the size of a small gas ATV (im 6' and can ride it) and it has working suspension.

The idea occurred to me that I could cut the rear axle assembly off, put on a metal axle with rubber tires and a good motor with ESC and run it on 24 or 36v and it should be awesome.

Thing is, I don't know how I should build an axle...or if there is something I could look for to pull a axle off of.
There is plenty of room in this thing for 3 12v 12ah batteries...maybe even a bit bigger.
I would also have to figure out how to do a manual brake.

anyway, I thought id post some pics and see if you guys had any ideas to help get my thoughts flowing.

I did a 24v conversion on that same model a few years ago and ran it until the stock motors were toast. However, I don't think what you're wanting to do would exactly be feasible. Mounting all the axle and motor hardware to the plastic frame of the atv would be a serious PITA. Instead, I would head over to modifiedpowerwheels.com and see what they're doing as far as hop-ups go; there are some pretty sweet rides going on over there.

Yeh, I looked at used small ATV axles...seems like they would be hard to mount, and also hard to mount a motor to the plastic and have it be strong enough.
I could go 24v or do so with a ESC setup...but that would still only work for my son. Secretly, I was wanting to build it so I could ride it Currently it has a 18v setup...it will move with me on it, but only about 10' before the breaker trips.

Yep over on MPW forum you can see how to run a 36v setup with upgraded motors and i think one of the members put rubber tires on it.
I have the 24v polaris and i also looked at going gas but its a real hassle.
