Novice builder looking for ideas and most probably lots of help!

Hi, im a new member to this forum and also to kart building. Came across the site while looking for ideas on how to restore my kart as a winter project for me and my son to do over winter. I have a Manco Dingo fitted with a Tecumseh 6hp engine which i have had for about 14 years.

Im going to spend the next few hours (cause im bored and on nightshift) looking through the site at other folks builds and hopefully get an idea on what i should do to our kart.

Well if "restoring" means keeping the 14 year old Tecumseh, I'm out. LOL
As much as we like Dingos, we dislike Tecumseh's. Actually my Tecumseh did fine when I had it, I just wouldn't want to own one again because of the lack of performance parts.

Ill try and get some pictures uploaded the next few days.

Feel free for anyone to give me some suggestions on whats the best plan of attack, i.e. new engine and associated equipment, colour combos, roll bar (not sure if thats what its classed as) on or off.

A Tecumseh is a fine engine it's just that a lot of members here dislike what they don't understand... or can't fix.

Whereas most small engines have simplified parts for ease of use, it seems Tecumseh uses carburetors that are comparable to what is on Vyvyan's yellow Ford Anglia. Same kind of complexity....but real sensitive to fuel quality or lack thereof.

That's one way to get a workout, try and pullstart a Tecumseh with way more compression than it should have. And boy have I tried!

I could make one of those exercize machine infomercials you could see at 9am on the comedy TV channels!

My original owner of my Manco Dingo welded a bit of metal on the back of his as a foot rest and some pipe as handle bars. The convenience of a single seater but the capacity of a dual seater!

Hi folks, here are a few pics i had my bro take for me, not the greatest so ill take some myself when i'm on leave. It has had a paint about 5/6 years ago but i think ill strip it and have it powder coated, not sure what colour tho.

OH YEH!!!! Now we're talking!!!!!!!!!! BUT, you need ground clearance for good off road running!! Those tires are awesome,but, your front ground clearance has much to be desired.......

I would get that engine running. Remove the TC and disassemble, polish the sheaves and lube it properly. Clean the rust off the brake disc.
Then gas it up and ride.
May be wheel bearing could use some attention. Sitting is bad for things.

Looks like a blast. Now get to it!
