Hi there from Vernon, BC. Picked up a dirt buggy go kart similar to stangfuri's (don't have a picture handy) and took it for its first spin today with my son. We had such a hoot that he wants to go again tomorrow. I am not sure who's more excited, him or me :)

It is a 150cc model but the previous owner put in a 349cc engine with direct drive and jack chain. Seems to go reasonably well but lacks a bit in low rev climbing power. And it's missing reverse so right now reverse is truly push manual ;)

So far, lovin' it!!

Welcome. Like fireman said, gearing will help you out. What are the sprocket tooth counts on clutch and axle as well as the tyre diameter. This will help us determine your gear ratio that you have now

Thanks. The tires are AT22 x 11-10 and with current inflation stand 21" tall. I counted the teeth on the sprockets and got the following (providing I counted right). The sprocket on the centrifugal clutch is 13 teeth. It is connected to the jack chain axle sprocket with 47 teeth. The other jack chain sprocket is 13 teeth which is connected to the wheel axle sprocket with 49 teeth.

Seeing that there are no gears in this setup I like the top speed for the most part but low revs power is lacking (struggles a bit at the top to climb onto the trailer). But if the sprocket teeth are changed to get better low rev power, will that decrease top end too? It also lacks reverse that is rather inconvenient at times. Maybe I'll start a thread to get input.

With the figures that you have posted, your ratio is 13.62:1. This is a nice low ratio, but if you say that you have no torque, then you are going to have to go lower. This will mean either getting smaller than 13T sprockets of larger than the 47T and 49T that you have. Gearing lower will lower your overall spead.

The problem you have is that your tyres are so big
