New To Karting

Hi can anyone please help. I want to buy a kart for my 7 y/o son. Trouble is I have no idea what type of kart to buy him. Any advise would be great.

Hi OzFab, thanks for getting back to me.

I would be looking at a used one, being a complete novice to the karting world I don’t really know where to start. There is an outdoor circuit near me http://www.g-forcekarting.co.uk and I'll call around there on the weekend to start making enquiries. However any information in the meantime would be great. Such as what type of kart should I be looking to purchase for my Son.

Marc, it would be most necessary to let the folks here know what your budget is.

Is this cart gonna be for on or off pavement use?
Don't want a race type frame if you plan on dirt lots and such.

I'd look on CL and see what's out there and available. Most of them that are cheap will need some elbow grease.

If you plan on a road kart or for the track I'd go hang out on a race night and start asking questions. See if there is a kart for sell ....

It would appear he's in the UK since that track in post #4 is also in the UK and he's near to it. Not sure if the UK craigslist is any good for finding karts though.

Mentioning that track puts this whole endeavor on a semi-professional/racing footing. Is that what you intend for your son? He wants to "race" on that track and have a kart capable of handling those hairpin turns?

If that is not the case, just look for a simple yard kart/fun kart in whatever sale publications you have available and build it up to suit (knobby tyres for off-road, slicks for pavement).
