So I know a good amount on engines but my experience with anything outside of that is very limited considering go karts... I know how basic parts work but dont know much about how to put them all together... I got a go kart and minibike for $10 from a kid I know that was going to throw them out... they're both beat up but I took the old engine that didn't work off the go kart and bought a 6.5hp harbor freight engine for it... I'm going to buy a new clutch, tires, and chain for it and need some advice... I'm repainting the frame to make it look good as well... I posted pics of the drive system... can anybody explain what I'm working with... I'm 99% sure I need a clutch that runs from a belt and not a chain... any suggestions and advice would be awesome thanks

In the last 3 pics the first 2 are the day I got it and the last one is in the middle of sanding the frame down and getting ready to repaint it

What you need in terms of drive setup in a clutch with a pulley attached to it. The belt goes from your clutch pulley to the jackshaft one. then on the jackshaft is the basic sprocket and chain setup going to the axle. oh yea, welcome

thanks for the comments... I'll look at it tomorrow and take some closer pictures but should any belt drive clutches work with what i have? i have a link to one I might buy...

the max torque one for $54 is what I'm looking at with the 3/4 bore... is there anywhere else I could get a better price? I need the clutch and maybe another pully but the kid before me blew out the clutch so thats junk and then I'm buying a new brake, tires, and i got throttle cable to hook up the throttle... I'm repainting the frame so hopefully the kart will look new when I'm done with it... what kinda price do you think I could sell it for? I'm probably overall going to spend about $400 fixing it up basically replacing everything but the axles, frame, and jackshaft

Depends- If that jackshaft pulley you have IS the driven from a torque converter system, you will not be able to just use any centrifugal clutch. You will have to get the appropriate torque converter driver clutch, and belt. Take a pic of that pulley from the "driver's side" of the kart. While you're at it, take a close look. Does it look like it's more than one piece? Can you see any springs or moving parts in it?
PS- You got all that cool junk for $10? Dang, I'm jealous!

yea I'm pretty lucky for getting all that... it was just junk to the kid who overheard me talking about building a go kart and he only wanted $10... but I still haven't had time because I've been busy with work and my family has been here everyday because my brothers home from college but I'll have pictures up asap definitely tomorrow night or monday... heres a pic where you can see the spring on the driven pully...
