New Member with an Old Kart

[DUH Go Kart]

Hello Y'all:

I got this Kart (cart?) from my friend's dad's estate. It had been sitting under an enclosed porch for at least 30 years. It is an old Sears Kart from Sears (Canada?). It has a Tecumseh HS50 engine, drum brake, live axle, and centrifugal clutch.

When I picked it up it was missing the carburetor, had 4 flat tires, and was loaded with spider webs. The kill switch was missing, and the wire was all torn up like it had been dragging on the ground.

Besides those minor problems it is solid. The seat is not torn and filled with mouse crap. The steering wheel and steering gear is solid, and while the frame looks rusty, structurally it is sound.

First I hosed out all the spiders. Fortunately New England Spiders are tame.

I found the correct carburetor and air cleaner using clues found on this site (Thanks!!), and a snowblower forum.

Drained and refilled with 30W oil.

Put air in the tires. Oiled the chain with the wax based lube I use on my bicycles.

I got the carburetor, hoses, and fuel shut off hooked up after cleaning the fuel tank.

I tried starting the engine, but found I was only getting intermittent spark.

After procrastinating, by messing with the spark plug and dangling kill switch wire, I tore into the magneto ignition. I found that the points has oil on them. I cleaned and re-gapped the points.

After that started on the first pull!!

Now, just waiting on a new kill switch before I let the girls ride it around.
