New member here from SE Texas. Picked up a kart for a decent price and wanted to disassemble, basically just freshen everything up. Turns out, everything is seized up on the live axle. I managed to heat the wheels (ruining them) and got them off. Then started trying to get set screws out of brake drum, sprocket etc and considering the condition of the shaft, I've decided to just start over from scratch! Now basically I have a 1 seater kart with the 212 predator engine. I'm going to be buying new axle, sprocket, wheels and I think I like the idea of the torque converter. The kart had 16 " Dia tires and id like to stick with something about that size as it will mainly be used off road. Before I just start blindly buying parts, I'd like input on torque converter, and sprocket sizes I should start with. This will be ridden by my kids (120 lbs) and myself (190 lbs) of course! I'm not too concerned about it being a speed demon, but rather have plenty of torque with adequate top speed. Any suggestions on torque converters and axle sprockets will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum

You made a wise choice with a torque converter, they may seem a bit expensive to some but, to others, it's an investment in fun...

Let's start with the sprocket from the old axle; what is the chain pitch? How many teeth does it have?

16" tyres are considered small for an offroad kart & are readily available, however, the size of the rear tyres will effect the drive gear ratio so, it may by in your best interest to source the tyres before deciding on an axle sprocket size...

Well guys, first I want to thank everyone for the welcomes and help up to this point. Even the Texas comments!! Well, after pricing everything I needed just to get this kart back in shape, I was actually able to locate a much better cart in much better condition that I could pick up for less than my parts alone were going to cost. Drove about 85 miles to pick this one up and brought it home and couldn't wait to mount the predator on it and try it out. For being a larger, heavier kart, I was impressed! It has a live axle with mechanical disk brakes. Top speed is 30 on the gps with a 60 tooth rear sprocket. I'm going to order a torque converter today to hopefully wake it up a little on the bottom end. I will say though, that seat sucks!! It's hard to stay in it when cornering at any speed!! I've slid all around in that thing!! Hopefully my pics attached. The red one was my original project but ended up being just a donor for the engine. The black one is what I'm working with now.
