New Karter

Hey I bought my first go kart (mostly for my 8 year old daughter) last winter,

Its a Path Finder? Has a Briggs and Stratton 136212 0016 01

When I bought it, it was stalling a little and rolling forward on its own, and the guy who sold it to me claimed it was just the idle being off..
I paid him $300 and was happy to have it.

After a day of riding and messing with the idle, we learned it had nothing to do with the idle. It would stall here and there if you depending on gas pedal, and it always rolled full speed even with no gas, then I tried to fit my fat *** in there and I broke the throttle cable.


Long story short I took to a terrible shop that claimed it needed a clutch throttle cable and all new carb for $900+ dollars !!!!!!!
Good news I looked on ebay and other go kart sites and Im pretty sure I can get the parts for like $100 total?????

so my questions are
1. Which clutch do I buy I think its 10 tooth but not sure how to tell inner bore.
2. Do I need a special tool to remove and reinstall the clutch?
3. Is there a place to buy the correct throttle cable so im not 'rigging' it.
4. do I need a carb gasket kit or entire carb? It seems to stall if u step on gas to hard, but if u flutter the pedal or mash it, it stalling can be kinda avoided..

Hi Eddie.

1. You may not need your clutch replaced. Your idle speed may be too high making the clutch "grabby" or engaging it enough to drive the kart forward. Or it may be toast. Also, don't forget to oil the clutch bearing every 2 hrs of use or so.

Buy the same clutch that you have on there. Count the number of teeth but you also have to know the chain size or "pitch" as it is called.

Your engine shaft size should be 3/4" so that's the size bore you need.

2. You shouldn't need special tools.
3. Measure the length of your throttle cable and you can most likely buy a new one anywhere. Otherwise get on BMI or GoPowerSports (10% discount there, code: DIYGOKARTS)

4. Unknown. Might need some minor tweaking, cleaning and so forth. Obviously the engine runs and idles so that's a good thing.
