I am new to building Karts. So far I have completed one that I cut in half and stretch into a two seater. The one I am working on now is a unknown make and model (Yerf dog is believe). I have striped it down and got it nearly reassembled and felt it was time tio step up from the centrifugal clutch to a torque converter. I have bolted the TAV2 on to a Predator 212cc. When I give it any gas it looks as though the the torque converter spins appropriately but the chain just sits there. :mad2:What so I need to do the get this thing moving?

I did not wield on the odd engine mount the previous owner did with hope of a snow mobile engine that never happened.

Thanks!
David

Other pictures of this kart.

I also have another kart that I will start on after this one is done. It is a Yerf Dog 3020. I thought mine was just broken but I I found on this web site that this has been recalled due to the front end over-steer. So I will need to do some fabricating and see if this can still be a safe kart. My goal is to do something like what "qtband" did here.

But first I need to figure out torque converters and get this bad boy out of my garage.

Thank you for any help!
David

Have a look if the sprocket on the TC is fastened correctly. There is a key that holds that sprocket onto the driven. You might not have the key installed and it is just sitting there with the TC shaft spinning in the middle of it

That has to be it. I will try taking it apart today and see what I find that could lock that sprocket into the driven. Thanks!

Thanks for the help!

:wai: Had another torque converter that I traded out today. She ran great, until the chin fell off on the sprocket side

The first torque converter bolt will not come off the driven as there is no key in the axle. I do not know how to get it apart so I can reassemble with a key in place.

Now I just need to toss on the new seat and tighten the chain.

Go Kart Done!

She is done and a beauty!

Now on to my next project - Had to find another kart for parts.

I believe it is a Zooma TyRodIV - I will place the Harbor Freight 212cc on this as well. Should be pretty fast ~ 40 MPG with the engine at 3500 RPM. I think that speed with no suspension will be painful. There is a "adjustable suspension spring" but it is a joke! I think road tires and keeping it on asphalt will be a better plan.

Thanks Landuse, I got the other torque converter apart with an impact wrench.
