Hey guys i just got started on my cooler kart project and have a few questions for the experts. But first let me explain what i am building.
I had a old race kart frame laying around and had always liked the cooler karts you see at cruise ins. So first to shorten it up a little i sectioned about ten inches out of the middle of the frame. Then i moved the motor mount from the right side of the kart to over the axle to save some room. I then had to do some relocating and such to get the steering shaft to be vertical rather than layed back like it is on the race karts. I will be using bike handle bars with hand controls for brakes and accelerator. it will be powered by a 5.5 hp honda with govenor removed, race pipe and conical filter.
I need to get my clutch and a few other things ordered to move on but i wanted to get some opinions on gear ratios. The rear end has a approx 65T sprocket right now. I will be running racing kart wheels and tires ( i would geuss a diameter of 8-10 inches) What kind of clutch would you use and what tooth? i was thinking a 10 or a 12 but wasnt sure on which to choose. I just want a good overall ratio.
