We have a little 6V car we bought for our son who quickly grew bored of the 2.5mph. So I put in a 12V lifepo battery and it's been much better. The problems are two fold:
#1. breaking gears in the transmission
#2. burned up the controller.
The motors are fine. Seem to handle it with no problem.
And the controller lasted way over a year, but finally gave up recently. Actually what happened was it's a forward/reverse controller and then the forward part burned up, I rewired it so it would run on forward in the reverse position and we got another 6 months out of it.
But I want to find a controller that has a limited speed reverse because I want to take it to 24V. And I want to find something that has a soft start to maybe avoid shearing teeth of the plastic gears in the gear box.
There are a zillion controllers out there, but being somewhat new to this I don't know what to pick. Can someone point me in the right direction for this quest?
