Hi there guys, I picked up this blue devil yesterday and I like it a lot, it has 5hp honda engine in the back and its a one wheel wonder :)

But in next two months this go kart will undergo a lot of changes and will go from 25mph that it does now to ++75mph. But I will speak about that in the build thread that I will make when I start the project

Anyway, its pleasure to be part of this forum since my knowledge about go karts is limited and I can learn many things from you guys
Cheers :cheers2:

Welcome to the forum. Be aware that 75 MPH is a wholly unrealistic goal for a fun kart. You say it will undergo a lot of changes, but the kind of changes you would need to make are in excess of what it would take to build a new kart.

75 MPH is a speed range that will reduce you to your basic genetic make-up if it should fail at speed. What this means to the test pilot is that absolutely every system on the kart must be up to the incredible forces involved. The chassis must be well engineered and well built. The braking system (all 4 wheels) must be able to rein that puppy in, in a safe, controlled, and predictable manner. The steering geometry must be all but perfect. All of the linkages and controls need to be able to withstand the abuse, and not fall apart at a life-and-death moment. The bearings have to be able to handle the RPM, and the heat and abuse that goes with it. Every last nut and bolt needs to be high quality, and properly torqued.

Are you capable of this? Is there any sense trying to do this to a kart that will be COMPLETELY replaced by the time you're done? Or perhaps it's better to set more reasonable goals. You decide.

Keep in mind that when your butt is 2" off the ground, 40 feels like 80.

Yes I know all of that and thank you for your concerns. But as any other project in the past that I've done, I am and will be taking it slow. I will take the whole kart apart to a bone skeleton and start from there. Front end of the frame is very strong and will be able to withstand the torture, but everything else other than the frame will need to be replaced, I know. I want to have power to the both wheels in the back so new rear axle, new wheels and tires all around, new engine, sprocket, and disc breaking system.
In addition to all of this kart will get new seat, new gas tank, cluster gauges and steering wheel. Still debating on the fiberglass, whether to keep it or build new one.

Please remind me if I am forgetting anything because I am here to get as much of your input as I can guys?

Look into the possible need to gusset or reinforce the frame, bigger kingpins and stronger knuckles and spindles up front, stronger steering rods and Heim joints, high speed bearings. Might be more, but that's what I think of immediately.

I am undertaking a project of a similar nature, and was amazed at just how much of the original vehicle I threw out...

+1

Torque wrench, loctite.. lots of loctite. With an engine doing 10k RPM EVERYTHING vibrates.. so along side of loctite, make plans to put rubber grommets under things like seats.. and maybe copper washers with the bolts that connect the engine to the mounting plate. also under the gas tank. Carefully mounted exhaust - that has LOTS of vibrations. so make sure its mounted tightly.

Oh, and welcome

when your *** is 2 inchs from the ground
40 seems like 80

if u ride this thing at a recorded 75 mph then u are a braver man then me
my creations have done that but thats starting with cars or motor bikes made to do that speed

and my latest project is aiming for that speed off road
but it was designed by someone with 20+ year experiance and a degree in motorsports
its also the size of a small car, has a full roll cage and uses car parts

If 75mph is a/the goal on such a platform... I think you are going to need to drill the bolts and have locking fasteners. Were getting into racing territory lets face it.

gopeddude........what a character...
hahaha.... every forum has their moments....forever to be immortalized upon the internet.............. forever....

Iam curious as to what kinda tools and jig setup you have for such a job.
Powerplant...Looking like a ninja or something similar for those speeds?
Brakes alone are going to be some killer price for that setup.

thank you guys for awesome replies and advice. I had locking fasteners in mind the whole time but I forgot to mention them and you reminded me, thanks :)
Also thank you fowler, J-Walker & toystory_4wd for your input, its very appreciated :)
I will start my build thread in Go Kart Discussion today where you can follow and supervise my project
