I'm trying to make a short vid made up of videos & still images to which I can add an editable soundtrack, a title & subtitles. I tried MS Live Movie Maker 2012 which is quite good but, the text features don't seem to be working.

Does anyone know anything about MS Live Movie Maker, enough to help me solve the problem or, perhaps, suggest a similar, suitable, FREE alternative...

Depends, how much of a pirate are you?

Sony Vegas Pro. Its easy to learn, also has some advanced features, like tracking and such. but if you're anything like me, and want to cut and do simple edits. its the way to go.

the con's are. some things in it are so overly complicated to do, its amazing, and I try to avoid those effects.

My favorite thing about sony vegas is the video/audio tracks, out of EVERY video editor I've used, by far are my favorite setup.

They look ok; even "Movie studio" looks like it'll do the job...

Now I understand the "pirate" comment :smiley_omg:

I use Videopad Video editor. You can download the basic free version. I haven't used all the options, but it is pretty good

I tried that but, compared to the broken Movie Maker, it has limited capabilities...

Well, after giving up on Movie Maker 2012, I dropped back to the 2011 version. There was a teething problem or two & the functionality is a bit better on the 2012 version, for instance, you can save the movie in any format you like as long as it's WMV & projects aren't backwards compatible (meaning I can't open the project I made in 2012 in 2011 so, I had to start again...)

Anyhoo, I finally produced a project I'm happy with; keep an eye on my build thread ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys...
