Motenergy ME1717

Riding around in my kart when it starts to rain got me thinking about these IP65 Motenergy motors that I ran across. I already have water/dust resistant electronics (battery, controller). Does anyone have any experience with something like the ME1717? I can only find scant info on it, though it looks like it is skewed to significantly more RPM/V and a little less torque/Amp than my ME1305.

Well, Fany with Kelly says my KLS-H controller will run the ME1717 with no problem. Ironically, I got caught out in a thunderstorm today a few miles from home. I will probably pull the trigger unless I can find a reason not to.

If anyone cares, I just hooked up the ME1717 with a makeshift connector (they didn't send the male end this time) and it scared the **** out of me. I knew it would be faster but I did 44+MPH right out of the gate when I normally struggle to get 32MPH. It gets up to speed very fast; faster than before. The motor is quiet, too... I hear the chain over anything else.

I ran into an issue with RPM overshoot with the KLS-H and ME1717. I worked with Fany at Kelly Controllers over several days but was unable to resolve the issue. Basically, the motor overshoots what the max RPM is set to in the controller (doesn't matter if using max rpm or max speed %) all the way to about 6000 rpm (ME1717 is supposed to be 5500 max) and then an inexplicable regen braking occurs.

This motor accelerates harder than the ME1305 did and does so right up until the problem occurs. I have ordered a 15 tooth sprocket (have 12t now) and more chain to see if it makes a difference with more load and to push closer to 50mph just because...

Update: With a 14t sprocket, I am hitting 49.92mph. I still get overshoot, but it isn't as abrupt as before. I dialed back the rpm and cruise along at 46mph (instead of 38). I can still do donuts, but they aren't as quick to pull off as before. The kart still pulls pretty hard to top speed. The o-ring chain seems quieter as well, which is mainly what I was going for.

I am looking into picking up a 360deg camera to make some driving videos, since I saw someone else making 360 videos race videos with their electric kart. It looked pretty neat and I have a VR headset to get maximum use out of it for family members that won't get on the kart.
