I'm Mike, 32 with a 6 year old daughter, recently acquired a Murray Kilowatt as a project. I have had it for about two weeks and in that time, with the help of some friends, it has gone from rust bucket to cool looking paper weight on the verge of being a moving object. I've gotten the GX270 running and I'm waiting on the Comet series 40 torque converter and the back tires to come in the mail and it will finally be operational. A friend I have had helping me thinks the 9hp is too much for the steering and front end on this thing. I guess we will find out when we take it for a test spin. This forum has been a lot of help along the way.

I also have a Murray Kilowatt project that the boys and myself acquired as a Christmas present. I have replaced the motor with a stock Harbor Freight Predator 212cc (6 1/2 hp). Replaced the belt and TC driver (motor end). Replaced the brake caliper with a new one from gopowersports.com. I replaced the front tires/rims that were a knobby 145/70-6 to a V-thread 16x6-8, also ordered from gopowersports.com. To get a taller tire I had to go to a bigger rim. I replaced the rear tires from a knobby 18x11-8 to a V-thread 22x11-8 which I ordered off the internet. I put inner tubes in ALL the tires. The taller tires raised the go kart up for more ground clearance (about an inch in the front and about 1 & 3/4 inch in the rear. I see in your picture a battery mounted to the frame behind the seat, are you adding a LED light bar or lights to it? Adding some lights to my kart will be my next project but that will have to wait for later. Only other difference I see on my kart from yours is the roll cage bars above the rider. My bars go straight out for a couple of feet and then angle down to the front. It must be a different year model. My teenage boys are enjoying this go kart and I know you & your daughter will have fun on yours. Kart is looking good.
