It's been my experience that the difficult & expensive part is not the bender itself but, the dies; I can buy a bender assembly for $80 but, a suitable die & roller (JUST ONE SIZE) is worth over $200

I agree completely. I definitely wouldn't be able to make the dies.

That being said, even with the cost of the die and roller for ⅞" tube coupled with building the bender, it'll be half the cost of buying the whole thing.

I'm a cheap bastitt! Lol

Additionally, I just want the ego stroke of telling people I made it myself, when they ask where I got my bender.
(cheesy wink grin here)

Again though, totally agree that the dies are the $ suckers.

Iv'e taught mig welding for years and you made the right choice for beginners welding Mig is the easiest to learn and perfect for go-kart tubing! Most guys pick it up pretty quick the trick is setting it up for the work your doing. I highly recommend gas shield welding over flux core welding (Gas shield is more forgiving and much easier to learn) but the problem is most welders come with flux core from the store if your in the market for a welder get one with the gas provision (trust me you will be a lot happier!) then its just a matter of practice most guys will achieve proficiency in a matter of a few hours practice
A little tip--- a constant buzz when your welding is what you want if it's sputtering your doing something wrong! once you master it your not gonna believe how easy it is and once you learn your a welder for life!! Good luck!

Mig is probably the easiest to pick up, but it has real limits; anyone who thinks they're experts just because they can pull a trigger will be in for a rude awakening if they have to learn some of the more advanced forms of welding.

That being said, I totally agree that if you're looking to buy a machine, stretch for the model that can support full Mig, not just flux core. That way, you only have to buy the machine once; without the provisions for gas control, most flux core machines require some serious mods and effort to turn into a Mig capable unit....
