Looking for advice

Thanks in advance for your input. I am a father of three rowdy boys that are excited about the kart we recently completed. The biggest question I have for the group is, how do I make my kart go SLOWER. I have a 10 tooth max torque clutch and a 54 tooth sprocket #40 chain. I have 14 inch drive tires and 212cc predator motor with NO mods. Well let me rephrase that, I had to modify the exhaust(strictly because of space issues). My boys are 3,7and 9 but are inexperienced with anything like a Kart. My 230lb father-in-law ran it half throttle yesterday and it registered 27 mph. My middle boy is afraid to drive it. The last thing I want is for him to have a bad experience with it. I want something that they can be comfortable with and grow into. Any advice will be appreciated.

You should be able to turn down the governor and slow it down. It's the screw that faces toward the pull start side of the engine that the throttle arm hits when it goes wide open. I've only ever turned them up, but I think it should work.

we're a little rowdy also.

Try the screw hillbilly is talking about it will limit how far the throttle will open.
You can also change the sprockets to regear it but it involves a little more work. Lower gears will take off faster but will not have the top speed.

I'd take a block of wood and put it under the gas pedal so it doesn't go down so far.

I *may or may not have* screwed mine in some when Dad wanted to take my Baja out for a spin. He doesn't need to go 40
