Just found a go kart

Hey y'all, I'm dennis.
So I found a go kart on the side of the road wrecked a couple weeks ago. I noticed it sit there for about five days and figured if no one else wants it I do. After some research it's a yerf dog 3203. Has a tecumseh engine. The frame around the motor was broken in a couple places so the motor was basically sitting on the axle.
Brought it home and fixed up the frame of its some beginner welding and rebar..The motor ran but the carb was leaky so I stuck a predator 212 I've had in the building on it. And moved the torque converter stuff over of course. The belt that whoevers it was had on it is a 27"X1/2 Kevlar belt. Not sure if this is correct because I've burned one up. I put a new one on from tractor supply and it seems to be holding up well. Just not seem to set the power I should. I bought a comet 30 torque converter online for my other cart(no longer running) and it gave it tons of torque. Should I be getting good torque out of this one too? Also if anyone knows where to get the right brake band I could use a link. Thanks in advance!

It should have plenty of torque, but only if your gearing and tire size are correct. So, what is the tooth count on your sprockets, and what is your tire OD? Also, some pics of the kart would be nice.

Are you using a common v belt on that comet 30 TC?
If so you need to get the proper asymmetrical belt.

It looks like a typical automotive V-Belt and that will not work. I smell burnt rubber already. Go out and buy Belt # 203589 and remember, the ARROW <<>> always points toward the engine block.

Won't hurt to use this chart to verify the correct belt.

The belt came yesterday. It really woke up. The brakes are supposed to arrive today to be able to stop this thing.

Good to see your getting the kinks worked out.

Couple of things to check.
The 3 rubber buttons on the drivN unit. It looks like the belt is sitting a little low in the sheaves. The buttons could be wore out and need replacing. This can also cause the belt to drop to far down in the sheaves and rub on the rivits causing premature belt shredding.

And the surface of the sheaves on both units should be polished smooth. Any rusty crud on them can also cause the belt to be grippy and cause the cart to lurch at idle and again cause premature belt wear.

I also see a rusty brake disk. Again it should be polished smooth.

I've heard of people having success with cheap belts from Tractor Supply. Makes me wonder. I'm sure I'll never test it.
