Growing up my brother and my self put together several already made carts with motors we had lying around. We was crazy, mixed in avgas, paint thinner, methanol. What ever we could get our hands on. It's truly a miracle we survived and didn't explode a few. Fast forward, now I'm older and have 2 sons that are 16 and 12 and ready to build a kart. I will confess I plan to cheat a little. I have an old 4 wheeler that will donate tires, wheels, a arms and rear axle, brakes, some steering. I'm looking to build a 2 seater grand daddyish frame. I've been lurking around looking at the builds. Some of these are amazing works!! Keep up the good work!!

This kart really is for boys, but I'm also buying an extra part here and there for another kart I have planned for myself. I have an extra 16.5 vertical shaft and a 10hp tecumseh, 6 speed mower transaxle that could used. For the boys I'm gonna try to use the original 180cc 7hp motor that was on the 4 wheeler.

Wait! That wasn’t a joke…..

vertical shaft engines and mower transaxles are not the best choice for anything other than mowers or low speed applications. Ask me how l know. Stick with the “ normal“ configuration for best results.

The vertical one wouldn't be high speed. Something I could take down in the woods, drag out some firewood, drive thru our creek. Drag out a deer, etc. Utility instead of fun. Tubing shows up tomorrow, so the real fun begins! And wow Hack if you wrote comedy in the 50s that is awesome!! makes you an older model than me tho, lol!!

Rule #1: don't believe every thing you read here.
You will learn to differenciate fact from fiction, there is a lot of senseless banter which several of us participate in.
I never have written comedy, and still don't. I am only a nuisance to those serious people here.
Rule#2: don't take things too seriously.
Rule#3: don't get offended.
Rule#4 have fun here.

Yes l am a geezer, but there are several here. All claim to be building stuff for the kids/grandkids. But most are reliving their childhood.
l amthe only one here actually building junk for the grandbrats.

l have built the vertical shaft hydrostatic transaxle utilty contraption of which you speak.

I can relate to reliving the childhood. I'm a kid at heart. That's why we making multiple carts, kids can't have all the fun!!

So, I'll attach Pic of current status, was going to stretch and modify. I ended up deciding to scratch that idea and build full new frame but still use front arms and swing arm

No shocker there, I've used them for a few random projects. I know their load ratings are way off. One time I put them under a tank that weighed around 500lbs. 4 of them rated at 300lbs should be a split 1200lbs load, nope......put all 4 almost flat on the ground!!
