Jeep people, help me?

Cause I need all kinds of help!

But anyways... we have a 96(or7) Grand Cherokee. Recently we swapped out the engine(rod bearing) with the engine out of a older Grand. Worked out great cept for having different plugs and getting th timing wrong.

So the thing starts up but then it kinda stutters, the rpms go all over from 1500 or less. Jus jumps around, a person can hold it at about 2k but still jumps a lil bit, but still stay somewhat consistent with 2k...

It seems like it needs to "warm up" before it will run better. So I would try and hold it at 2k for a lil bit, even then when I put it in gear it does it little stutterin... When it doin its thing it doesnt have any power atall, I try to go up a hill and it goes up part then kinda stops and stutter some more (pedal to the metal)When I finally manage to drive it a bit it seen it run fine.

I got codes for the 02 sensor, crankshaft sensor, and another sensor( I dont remember) however we replaced all those with new...

Now with my limited knowledge about all this... I would think its to do with ignition, or fuel... One or the other? Lil of both? I was thinking check the spark plugs, but what do I look for? Coult it be spark plug wires? What about th fuel delivery system? Could something be clogged?

Ultimately, if I can get some idea as to what may be wrong, or find out for sure, we can do it ourselves... instead of having to pay who knows how much to get it fixed.

So then... any ideas?

I would a) start with making sure that your firing order is correct, b) make sure that you are not off a tooth or two on the distributor, c) check the distributor timing itself.

Im thinking we already got that strait. But regardless, what would be the best way to check this?

Well we did check the vacuum, not sure about the cam though...

{EDIT} Well, didnt get a chance to look at it... the folks sent it off to a guy to fix. Said it was the distributor, so he said its running fine... But if it does mess up again, it might be something to do with the flywheel...

But it thats all it was the distributor, thats something we could have done... for free even.
