Jackshaft followup

Quick update on my sons cart that needed more lowend torque. Finally got time and found a simple way to add a Jackshaft. Havent tried it yet but hoping this gives him enough lowend power.

Sadly, as nice as I thought it turned out, I feel I may need to re-engineer the hole thing :(
Couple test runs in the garage tonight and the chain was loud and making a 'jumping' sound. I tried my best to adjust the chain tensions but couldnt get it to go away. not sure what the problem is. One small issue I saw is the floor board the jackshaft is mounted to isnt super rigid and flexes some when the motor turns. I didnt think this would cause a problem, but maybe with the smaller #25 chain the efects are compounded?

any other thoughts?

Well I do not know about Electric Karts.
But I have heard of guys having chain problems due to the Motor mount flexing on a gas powered Kart.
So most likely yes the flexing floorboard mounted Jack shaft could be your issue.
I believe Electric motors have Greater Torque too, adding to the potential Flex.

I agree..

the two jackshaft mounts and the motor itself should be mounted to the same (at best rigid) plate, so that IF something flexes.. they do flex the same and you only have one chain to make noises.

By the look of it.. I guess you could maybe fix that rather quickly, by adding steel cross support under the seat (IDK but 2x1"hollow tube should suffice)
weld it to the lower part of the frame to hold the jackshaft supports.

Then it'll only be the chain from the motor to the jackshaft that could cause noise...
(you could stiffen that as well.. but the seat will get MUCH harder if you remove that flex... and your kid might not like that at all :D

The motor to the Jackshaft is causing the biggest issue it seem, shaft to axle seems to stay on just fine...
Going to break out some 1" angle iron and my welder to reinforce the floor board and connect verticals to the top tubes. That should make the entire rear pretty rigid...
Long term Im going to redo the front setup with new wheels and Manco style springed spindles to soften the ride a little
