I am building a Grand Daddy Go cart and kind of feeling lonely LOL.

Hello all,

I 42 and building a go cart for me and my daughter to have memories with. I thought I would have this thing nipped in a few months and now its approaching 2 years. I have found lots of Grand Daddy Spider Carts advice on google that has led me to this forum and as I wrap up my project I want to post a bit for the next father (or granddaddy) who wants to build this project.

There are many mistakes and changes that are not in the plans and the BOM is a bit dated. I have a youtube channel where I document some of my cart ideas and challenges and if is ok ill post a link.


On a side note, as a kid who grew up in rural midwest I was always interested in DIY transportation and low cost living. There was always some 60 year old guy whos kids left the farm rigging something up whether it be a tractor, mower or rusty go cart and I always felt that one day I would have my own projects and creations that some other youngster would witness.

While some people go to out of town for vacation I am in the garage working on something or buying another power tool.

Welcome! There are several projects like yours going on here for the exact same reasons. Your experience sounds about normal as does the time frame. Lets see I'm into year 3 on mine, but I get distracted easily. Several old guys here to answer all sorts of technical stuff. Plenty of kids as well (60 years and less). Bring on the pics.

The rural midwest I am speaking of is Indiana. I used to live close to a place called Heritage Lake, Danville etc. Was that you welding up a lawn mower in the 90s LOL.

The early 90’s I don’t remember much. I was still drinking. Don’t remember much of the 80’s either. So could be? But I’m originally from the Whiting/Robertsdale area. Danville is further south I believe. Do I owe you money?
