Homemade Bio-Oil

Listen up folks,

I found a recipe for some good engine oil that you can make at oil with cheap supplies. It should let your engine run smoother and save fuel. The recipe is as followed.

• 68%-90% Canola Oil
• 5%-30% Castor Oil
• 3%-8% Carnuba wax

I got the recipe from US patent 5888947. Good luck cooking it up!

P.S. I couldn't find the instruction on how to make the oil so you'll have to experiment.

Interesting, to be sure.

But I think I value my engines just a wee bit too much to rely on a bunch o' fixin's from the Wal-Mart, when I can safely bet that the folks at Quaker State, Valvoline, Castrol, and Mobil 1, have all but perfected it for me...

Cooking? Given the wax content, I'd say it's a simple matter of heating it to melt the wax, and blending until homogeneous.

I know the big guys are more reliable but this article- http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/proceedings1999/v4-247.html got me interested. They tested it in a one cylinder engine and got good results.

Hmm. Food for thought. Are you studying this for school, or have you just a curiosity?

Foor school and for curiosity. There is a science project coming up so I thought of building a propane-powered, 6HP, veg. oil lubed., 100kph+ microcar. Sounds weird but the 100kph can be achieved by changing out gears on a lawn tractor transaxle. And the veg oil will keep the engine cooler at those speeds.

It's too bad a Yanmar L-100 style Diesel industrial engine (likely) is not within your budget. Think of all the "tree-hugging" point you could earn with your project not only being veg-lubed, but veg-powered, too!

Have you got your tractor tranny picked out yet?

A Perkins 402C is a REAL bad boy. But if someone wants to use it with a lawn tractor transaxle or centrifugal clutch they'll need an adapter to bolt on to the flywheel.

I found a snowblower for $50 which is a good deal for a transaxle, engine, and wheels.
