I thought I might share a kart that's on ebay today...

14hp and road legal in germany (love that part.. )

a bit steep (5700€ or roughly US$ 6250 )
but kinda cool...

Actually all he did was building a bodykit for a readily availale road legal kart (racekart'ish frame with ugliest bodykit ever)

Kreidler F-Kart 100.. or 170 in his case (I guess now under MC-Fun brand *shrugs*)

And that's the original wheels, except that it appears he's running rears all around

Let's make it short, changing the exhaust, wheels (incl the steering wheel!), lights or anything that is even remotely related to 'safety' renders any vehicle ingermany illegal if it's not approved by a the technical authorities.

To my best knowledge we in germany have the strictest rules for vehicle safety and road legality on this planet.
if it's road legal here.. you can likely get a license plate with it anywhere in the world!
Well, maybe except for California due to emission compliances
although a regular gy6 will fit and you should be good to go

in the US we have bumper height requirements. not sure this fits the bill. Even for home built cars. Even though its a lot easier to register a DIY home built car and use it for personal use as its not being sold to masses, I believe you can actually build like 10 and sell them and still not have to fit the requirements a big company does.

I don't know for sure, but I think this technically runs as a quad
otherwise it'd even need fenders to pass the requirements.
(that's why you cannot run a rat rod in germany.. at least not legally )

All these guy running around in lifted F250 pickups on 35" tall tires and the bumper is 36 to 48in+ off the ground. Then they go down the highway with all these little cars: mini coopers, fiats, prius where the bumper is 12 to 18". Imagine what my Chevy work truck would do to a smart car?

I'm actually a big fan of small cars (the smaller the better almost)
an old fiat 850 spider, the original cinquecento, old mini coopers, austins.. or my favourite the porsche 550 spyder , all can be arried in a womans purse...

The smart will never be on that list though (boy, that's an ugly -thing-)

Anywhoo, yes bumper heights are stupid, but frankly.. moving a twopointfive ton vehicle for no other reason than to haul my own 455 from A to B is worse than that
we have a saying... "the smaller the brain, the bigger the truck"
(well, it's not always 'brain' )

Just imagine how great it'd be to not get stuck between 200 trucks, SUVs and other unneccessarily large vehicles, but instead quickly pass the same amount of karts on the highway

But well, that train's out of the station I guess...
Still.. I'd rather die in a Fiat 850 spider than survive in a SUV

The top of my pickup is below my neck. Lifted trucks are just the tip of iceberg. All these SUVs and new pickups (stock) are tall enough to block my view of what's ahead.

Big and tall has its place, and that's usually hauling stuff. To drive it around on a constant basis is just...well let's just say I'm too broke for that lol.

Small and fast is so much better. I would rather do 100 mph in a small car that can corner a dime, and get 20-30-40mpg then drive a huge tank that can barely do 60 mph and only gets 10mpg highway.

I miss my big lifted truck ya, but I miss my fast car o so much more.

Just my 6 pence none the richer...

Of course a truck has it's place.. without it the whole economy might collapse
(think about the construction sites, small businesses for gardening, repair and so on)
And I fully understand, that a one man business that NEEDS such truck might not be able to afford a second car for smaller affairs.
And that's all perfectly legit IMHO...

And we weren't here (none of us) if a car (or Kart) just for the fun wouldn't be a valid thing..
and that too .. if you just like a lifted truck, I don't care (not enough to say anything)

But if you pick your car (any car) in order to IMPRESS anyone (girls, pals, colleagues...)

I've personally seen what a 60mph F-350 does to a stopped Fiat. There was not much left of the Fiat or the people in it, and the truck was literally untouched.

And Sid, I will just say I've had several lifted trucks, now drive a sport sedan, but can't wait until I can get back into a nice, big, diesel 4x4 like I had before, and I'm not lacking or compensating for anything on either end.

road laws in US drive me nuts. I love some of the Japanese Kei trucks...you can find some in the US but to my knowledge they can only be registered as "low speed" vehicles. And that might not apply in every state.

In maine, there are not minimum bumper height laws, but jacked up trucks with big tires can get fined big time.

In the US, a Harley motorcycle with a stupid loud exhaust is legal...put a fart can on your civic and you get pulled over. How does that make sense? One is stock, from the Mfg...that is the only difference. Both are crazy loud! Same goes for stuff like window tint. Maine only allows the lightest window tint to be added...even then it must be done by a pro and you get a certificate. Do it at home, and risk having a officer tell you that you have to remove it. But buy a car (like my scion xb) that has came with really dark tint, and it is perfectly legal.

At least in maine we don't have emissions test to pass. Having a inspection every year is bad enough. I would love to live in a state where there is no inspection...if I did...Id still have my 1986 Toyota 4wd pickup. It ran and drove perfectly fine...but to have it pass maine's inspection I would have needed to put $2k worth of work into it.

Id like to punch the guy who decided that fip up / pop up headlights are dangerous. I had a '89 Honda accord LXI (12v PFI version) and it was a great 4 door family car. Plenty of pep, light enough, good lines and I loved those head lights

But, this is what happens when the people who are making the laws too old to remember what it was like to enjoy driving a car or modifying stuff.

Nope, Harleys actually come with pretty good mufflers stock. A huge part of the business model though is adding on accessories before the bike is out the door, so they rarely touch the road that way. Then again...

Good thing about running into motorcycles, they don't usually hurt your jacked up truck much and they usually don't chase you when you keep going.....
