We are newbies refurbishing our first kart.

Skills or lack there of:
Equipped with a can-do attitude, perseverance, and some basic tools, we are setting out on our first project. What we lack in knowledge, we will make up for with the help of your fantastic forum. Reading through your info on this site over the past week has been an inspiration!

About the project:
We're not breaking any new ground, but here is a link to our project anyway in case you are interested.

My kart-related interests:
  • Learning new things and we are already learning a lot on this project. I would be interested in converting the kart to electric if that was more affordable. I'll keep wishing that bigger controller/motors will be within reach in a few years.
  • People who know me might say that I'm inclined to do things the "fun way" instead of the easy way. I'm fascinated by the idea of throttle by wire, braking by wire, and steering by wire. I can understand why you would think "drive by wire" using an Arduino and some home grown programming upgrades a kart from beautifully simple to unnecessarily complicated and dangerous. But I'll keep dreaming anyway.
  • Until we are ready for a more ambitious project, we are just thinking of removing the governor, upgrading to bigger wheels and adding a torque converter. You're welcome to post a reply in our project log thread (link above) if you have any ideas to make our project more original.

We are looking forward to participating in the DIY GO Karts community and meeting you in the forum.

Hi,
welcome to DIYGK..
and thank you for this excellent introduction!

Yes, with a basic set of tools and the right attitude (which you are showing) you are very well able to fix almost all go kart related issues.
some require more advanced tools
like welding or honing cylinder walls etc.
But we get there automatically if needed be :D

For now, I'm glad you joined to be part of this community!
