OK i am very new to gokarting , this is a summer project ok heres the question ? I am 225 lbs and the cart is about 65 lbs with out the motor. will the 6.5HP pull me around or go for the 13hp . I realy want to keep the one wheel drive and not go the live axel for now. If I go with the 13hp i want to use the comet 30 or 40 converter , I just done want to use a jackshaft. and I am looking for some pic of the comet 30 setup . please help me! I have no wheels for it yet so my options are up ,, PS i want to use it for some low hills and pavement around the house. :surrender:

so mainly on road correct and a TC or is that a cent clutch? If its a TC youll be fine with the 6.5 and if its a cent you could go 25-30 fine with the 6.5. 13 will be if you want to go fast and or offroad.

you do know that h.f. has all the motors on sell right now 6.5-125.00,.....11 h.p.-200.00,.....13 is on sale for 300.00 that is a good deal.just remenber the 11 and 13 have a 1 inch shaft on them but both are eletric start nice:drool5: and both 11 and 13 motors only go to 2500 rpms with the governor on. dude they would be better torque motors i would thing.

6.5 or 13

Yeah- the 6.5 and a torq-a-verter are a pretty good set up. I have that set-up on a small 2 seater, and it's geared to max-out at around 42mph @3600 rpm. With my fat-*** it gets up to 38mph, and it climbs hills great. A friend has one on his large gokart, and while it's no terror, it goes pretty well. I think he can do about 30 on the flat. The bigger motors kinda complicate things drive-wise. It'd be cool if there was a large version of the one-piece torq-a-verter for the 13hp.

Either is fine. I'd go with the torq-a-verter combo though. However, if you're aiming towards modifying it, the GX390 would be a better buy...

all governors are adjustable, the motor will be fine up to around 3600-4000 RPM, beyond that, it should hold together, but you'll be shortening the life.. if you plan to overspin (beyond 3600) any engine, you need to make sure you break it in properly and change the oil often, and plan on more maintenance and breakage.

if you have the money the 13 would be the one... more power = higher gears or more torque depending on what you want to do.. if this is a superlite cart/ race style, 13hp is likely overkill, the 11 would be more than sufficient, and give you $$$ for tires or other rigging.

good luck

I've heard Honda Clones hitting 6,500RPMs with a stock rod (upgraded valve springs however)
