yeah I can't watch that. we are talking about welding to a Chinese frame with tube dimensions similar to conduit. the kart frame will collapse before the roll cage will.

the front bars accomplish some triangulation as they are mounted in board vs the main up rights. same as the rear tubes. it's not just a square.

coolness factor went out the door when my 6'4" self needs to test drive this and function check everything.

it could literally squash down 2 feet and not be an issue.

I've been using ½ water pipe. It's cheap enough. It's also stronger than what the karts are made of. Just have to grind the galvanized off before welding.

why not use black iron pipe and skip the grinding step?

And that thin tubing is chromoly by the way. Even the cheap stuff is stronger than regular steel tubing.

Bastardkart. The only two important points that are trying to be made here are
# 1. The Chinese engineers, and manufacturers couldn't care less if their roll cage works or fails. It made it on to the ship and is on its way to America. Success.
# 2. Build it as strong ( or not so ) as you are comfortable with. It's YOUR cart. But the members on here responding to you ( myself included ) are under the impression that this kart is going to be used by your children, and can hardly believe that you are balking about 3 or 4 feet of pipe. FWIW, I own 4 big two seater karts ( much like yours ) all with original factory roll cages intact. But there is at least a 100 lb. difference between the heaviest and the lightest one. You can't tell the difference. You would need a measured track and a stop watch to figure it out. Don't get all freaked out over 10 or 15 lbs. When its your kids saftey, don't cut corners.

I've been seeing green flames while welding. that's usually galvanized.

found it. it's a tao motor jeep. I saw this one on marketplace and recognized the frame. guy was kind enough to tell me what it was.
