G'Day Guys,

So, hit a wall with the 2nd iteration of my off-road go kart (aka The Money Puddle).

I scored a $150 chinese motorbike that was tested, working and got stripped as a donor.

I can work out how to mount the engine, throw the chain drive to the sprocket (via the previously installed jack-shaft) and can hobble together mounting for all the other ancillary items (radiator, battery, etc) but want to get some inspiration on how people have done gear shift linkage from shifter to splined shaft on gearbox.

I'm thinking of doing a cable set up to allow for suspension flex but wondering if I'm overthinking it.

Seeing if anyone has some past project pics on here. I tried searching, not sure if I'm asking the oracle the right questions as I haven't found much.

(I'll post up pics later)

Thanks in advance!

Just run two cables. As an added bonus, you can put two brake levers on the steering wheel to pull the cables, and then you have a paddle shift.

1 push pull Morse cable. And a lever.

My last years build off winner was that way. And it worked perfectly.

Thanks Joe, I'll go thru the build log stuff!

Due to a lack of sanity, I want to use a lever. The half handlebar section that bolted to the front suspension tree has been made to work, and added bonus is the clutch lever is retained

Thanks for the replies Joe and Hillbilly!

So, having a look at it, looks like I need a cable about 4ft. It seems I need a bracket behind the shifter stick, to rigidly hold one end of the cable sheathing (threaded end with two nuts) with the islet end of the morse calbe connecting to the base of the gear lever. Then, run the cable pretty straight with a bit of slack for suspension flex to another bracket to lock in the other end of the sheathing, then somehow bolt the threaded end of the morse cable to the linkage arm off the gearbox.

This sound about right?

Again, thanks (in advance!)
